Yvette Mayorga is a mixed media artist and native of Moline, Ill. Graduated from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign with a BFA in painting, she is currently completing her MFA in fiber arts at the School of the Art Institute in Chicago.
Since 2014, Yvette’s work has been dedicated to the Mexican immigration story, stemming from the idea of the United States as Candyland. In 2015, EXPO Collective hosted Yvette’s first solo show, “Hyper Chicana in Candyland,” which included sketches, installations and sculpted cakes.
Her work has been shown in various places around Chicago including the National Museum of Mexican Art and in California with El Comalito Collective in Vallejo. Most recently, Yvette participated in The Brown Profile with the EXPO Collective, showcasing multimedia artwork, creatively telling the migrant story.
